Top 5 Reasons Why We Travel

Posted Monday, May 7th, 2007 · Permalink · 49 Responses...

I’ve been hellishly busy the last few weeks. Finishing off college. Final papers, exams, parties. You know. I hope you guys accept this as an excuse for the lack of new content here. But there’s so much to do here, too! I’m still not done with the new site design. I have two interviews ready to be edited and put online. I’ve got a series of interesting links for the asides. I even have a few articles that still need to be finalized. Gah!

A few weeks ago some fellow Travesphere bloggers were doing the rounds with a post called “5 Reasons Why I Travel”. TravMonkey tagged me on his round. Ever since then I’ve been meaning to do my post. That day never came.

Today, Darren Rowse of ProBlogger launched his latest Group Writing Project, and this time the topic is “Top 5″.

My mind goes: 5 Reasons Why I Travel. Top 5. 5 Reasons Why I Travel. Top 5. Get the idea? Click here to keep reading…

Must See: Queen’s Day in the Netherlands

Like Harry says, we here in the Netherlands are usually introvert in nature. We keep to ourselves. We’re generally nonjudgmental. And although we’re straightforward and say what we think, we accept that our opinion might not be the only one out there.

Enter Koninginnedag, a.k.a. Queen’s Day.

Canals of Amsterdam on Queen’s Day, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Queen’s Day is a national holiday in the Netherlands celebrating the former Queen’s birthday, the 30th day of April. It’s typically associated with city-sized flee markets, lots of orange-colored people, and beer. And fun. Lots of fun. And we all become extrovert. Verrry extrovert. Click here to keep reading…

10 Travel Photography Tips from a Pro

I’ve been a fan of Harry’s Exposed Planet.com for a while now. It’s one of the many blogs that I got to know via the Travvies. When I published the A First Experience PDF, Harry and I got in touch and I asked him if he’d like to write-up some tips for the photography category of my site. Here are his 10 travel photography tips. In my opinion these tips are not the obvious, no-duh ones you’ll usually find online. They’re golden.

Here are some basic travel-specific pointers. Many have been uttered by fellow shooters and some might seem too obvious, so use them as deemed necessary! As every photographer is (fortunately) different, this might not be useful for you, but for others this might help :) . Click here to keep reading…

From the Travesphere: Terah of Traveler’s Pen

Terah Shelton of Traveler’s PenIt’s been a while since I last did an interview with a fellow travel blogger. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy doing interviews! I have two interviews in store for you in the coming days; one with Mark Ashley of Upgrade: Travel Better (and host of the Travvies) and one with Pia Taylor of Backpackers.com. These are coming up. Today, however, we’re going to be talking with a professional travel writer who, incidentally, also blogs: Terah Shelton of Traveler’s Pen.

Terah has quite an impressive list of publications and praise. Her blog is a great reflection of her career: keeping people up-to-date on where she is, her thoughts on issues, and also has a great interview series, among other things. What is also fantastic is that she answers readers’ questions on traveling on her blog. Good stuff! In this interview she talks about how she began travel writing and gives what seems to be the essential tip for aspiring travel writers.

I asked Terah a few weeks ago about the interview. She was just leaving for a new adventure in Eastern Europe. Now she’s back. Here’s what she had to say. Click here to keep reading…
