Going Ad-Free
Posted Sunday, July 15th, 2007 · Permalink
Trying to make money by blogging is currently very popular. Very few are opting out. in my All Stars has been running ads since its inception. Today I am opting out. I am, at least for now, choosing to make in my All Stars revenueless.
I’ve been planning to do this for a while now. But I’ve also been planning on finally finishing and fixing the current “new” in my All Stars theme, which still needs to be attributed correctly to the sources of inspiration. I also want to finish the about page. But none of this happened before I left Holland. In any case, removing ads was an easy change. I hope to finally address some of the other points this week.
Why remove ads? I didn’t think they brought in enough money to be worth the screen real estate that they were taking up. in my All Stars is a small blog. On good days I get about 500 visitors. The best I’ve seen is 2000. Normally it’s around 350. This kind of traffic does not result in a decent profit. And so, as you can see, AdSense will have to wait till those figures improve.
As of today, until further notice, I make no money off of my online activities.

Much respect for that decision.
While I can understand it must be nice to get a bit of monetary compensation for your blogging efforts, I find that ads too often clash with the aesthetic. That’s the main reason that I keep it ad-free…and also because with the traffic I have the income would be a pittance

Good idea - I am with you. Tried it for a while (and I rarely hit 300!) but in the end figured that if the blog was written primarily for myself and the enjoyment of others then advertising lowered the tone. I have an on again off again affair with PPP but have a sneaking suspicion even that detracts from what I am doing.

Hey Timen!
The Lost Girls and I have finally wrapped up our adventures and finally have time for the really good stuff…stalking everyone else’s travel blogs
Love the idea to go ad-free. I must admit that one of the reasons we don’t have them is that none of us want to devote the time/energy to installing Ad Sense. We’re planning a little upgrade of the site in the near future (woo-hoo Wordpress) and would love to be a part of the Network.
xo,
Amanda (and the LGs)

the pennies you make give you a reason to come back and write even when you’re not in the mood! and it’s nice getting a reward for what you do!

Quite agree. Blogging is popular and grows very quickly. Yet making money from blogging is quite another case.
